One point of view can be read here.
A different one that takes into account the role played by Israel, as expounded in Oded Yinon’s seminal essay A strategy for Israel in the Nineteen Eighties, can be accessed here. In that regard, it is particularly damning for Israel that following the publication of the second edition of his book America’s War on Terrorism in 2005, in which he castigates the Anglo-American alliance for its destructive behaviour around the World, Michel Chossudovsky, in a short essay in 2006, would write this: “Israel is now part of the Anglo-American military coalition.“
The reader is obviously free to make her/his own opinion.

It’s not easy to grasp all that is going on in Afghanistan. Everything is in a state of flux. Alliances are always shifting and at this point in time, it is difficult to say who is fighting who beyond the recurrent cliché of “us” against the “Taleban”. And if it’s true that the Pakistani extremists who have been helping the Taleban are now heading back to Pakistan to fight Musharraf and if the latter is defeated, what would be the repurcussions for Afghanistan? So many “unknowns” best left to the experts. Meanwhile, one can certainly grasp the concrete ways that the Taleban are going about coopting if not coercing the population into their struggle against the occupants:
“The Taleban have come to the school three times in the past 20 days,” he told IWPR. “Always they come at night. They do not hurt us, but they tell us not to come out of our guard room, while they paste the night letters.”
The letters are much the same content as those in the mosque, he continued, “They do not say ‘We will burn the school’ or anything, just do jihad against the Americans.” – More
In the past 12 months since the latest war with Israel began, much attention has been paid to the destruction of power stations, telecoms towers, industrial warehouses, small factories, dairy farms and vegetable trucks – all non-strategic targets whose wreckage seemed part and parcel of a campaign to cripple the Lebanese economy more so than weaken Hizbullah positions. But little attention has been given to Israel’s targeting of Lebanese intellectual and scholarly life. – Link

That does not surprise me one bit. It is after all part of the strategy of war on societies, which “means that the war aims firstly at societies, not at states, organizations, and armies.”

Every day the Knesset has the option of passing laws that will advance Israel as a democratic Jewish state or turn it into a racist Jewish state. There is a very thin line between the two. This week, the line was crossed. If the Knesset legal counselor did not consider the bill entitled “the Jewish National Fund Law” as sufficiently racist to keep it off the agenda, it is hard to imagine what legislation she will consider racist. – Link

“Welcome to North America’s Security and Prosperity Partnership guaranteeing it to elitist interests by denying it to the people of three nations. They’re to be parts of the new ‘united continent of America,’ or North American Union, run by dark forces in Washington that won’t move out when a new president moves in January 20, 2009.” - Steven Lendman

When viewed eventually within the context of their miserable life, I guess that will be the “toughest” encounter that they will have had with “war” in their life. Will they be shamed by it? Who knows? Who will f**ing care? The harm is already done!
In conversations with at least twenty College Republicans about the war in Iraq, I listened as they lip-synched discredited cant about “fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here.” Many of the young GOP cadres I met described the so-called “war on terror” as nothing less than the cause of their time.
Yet when I asked these College Repulicans why they were not participating in this historical cause, they immediately went into contortions. Asthma. Bad knees from playing catcher in high school. “Medical reasons.” “It’s not for me.” These were some of the excuses College Republicans offered for why they could not fight them “over there.” Like the current Republican leaders who skipped out on Vietnam, the GOP’s next generation would rather cheerlead from the sidelines for the war in Iraq while other, less privileged young men and women fight and die. – Max Blumenthal
CASMII calls on journalists and the public to challenge dangerous distortion of news on Iran
The Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran has strongly criticised the Financial Times and launched a complaint with the Press Complaint Commission over the publication by the FT of a story making incriminating and unfounded allegations about Iranian government’s complicity with Al-Qaeda launching terrorist operations in Iraq, using Iranian territory. – Via Media Lens
